Best for your budget is to go meatless 2 dinners each week---one can be spaghetti with sauce from a can or jar and garlic bread...that whole meal will cost $5.oo, with enough left for the next days lunch.
Take some hamburger (thawed). Toast bread on one side only---if your toaster doesn't do that, do it in the oven. Then THINLY spread the meat on the UN-toasted side, and put in the broiler for 2 minutes--watch closely! My Mom was a depression child, and called these "open-face-hamburgers", and we LOVED them as kids, and MY kids loved'em too!
You can brown a pound of burger & mix it into 2 boxes of prepared Mac & cheese for less than $3.oo to feed all of you.
Save odd bits of meat & veggies all week, and make soup at the end (or freeze those bits until there's enough for soup).
Buy in bulk & freeze what you will use later, that is a real $ saver.
Pancakes for dinner is also really cheap, and the kids will love that. Eggs have gone up like crazy, but if they ever come down, there's a lot of great recipes for "breakfast casserole" (google it) that are great as dinner.
I was sooo poor when my 3 boys were small, but they never went hungry. Be smart, shop sales, stock up when you can.
Good luck & God bless you!

ahhhh yes i do 1 of my favorites is what i call a johnny marzetti/ghoulash caserole and it's quick and easy to make you'll need:

3-5 lbs lean hamburger (ground round also works well)

2 jars meat flavored pasta sauce

1 bag egg noodles or rotinni pasta

1 bag shredded provolone cheese (1lb or bigger)

1 caserole dish

1 skillet

1 saucepot

1 collander (to drain pasta)

to make it you do the following:

1.)steam the meat in a large skillet on the stove (you use water instead of oil to cook the meat and want it a dull greyish color) season the meat to taste with whatever spices you like best

2.) boil pasta in water in a sauce pot till tender but firm and drain in a collander but don't rinse it

3.) combine meat pasta and pasta sauce in caserole dish and stir to cover pasta thuroughly

4. cover top of caserole lightly with the shredded provolone cheese

5.) Bake caserole at 400 degrees in an oven 20-25 mins or untill cheese is the desired brown color you want (for crispy cheese coating on top this takes between 25 and 30 mins depending on oven)

6.) let cool 2 mins before serving after removing from oven

hope that helped

hey if you like Italian cuisine. I'd suggest Lasagna with bread sticks and a simple salad of your choice. A 9x5 baking dish will feed all of you and you might have some leftovers for the next day!

Pasta is the base for many great meals. Spaghetti is simple and quite filling. Lasagna is delicious. Salads are good choices.
