File a joint return

You could also file two returns "married filing separately". If you are middle class, you pay more taxes this way. But if both are working with high income, you might come out ahead.

If you are talking about lot of money, it is worthwhile trying out both ways, and then picking the best.

You can file married filing joint or married filing separate, whichever works best for you. Usually, it's married filing joint. It's not too hard to figure it both ways. If you're not sure, get a professional to do it for you or get software like Turbo Tax.

Your options are a joint return, or married filing separately. You will almost surely do as well or better if you file jointly.
