I would ask your daughter what she would prefer. However, I think it's very sweet what her great-grandma wants to do. Her great grandma would be so proud to watch her in her first communion wearing a dress she made. Through the years, your daughter could save the dress, and after Great Grandma is gone, it will bring your daughter great pleasure with the memories the dress will bring her. If you are not sure about the details, why don't you come right out and ask her? Tell her the kind of details you were sort of looking forward to, and I'm sure she'd let you know if she could do it or not...she'll probably surprise you. Have her show the pattern she intends on using. I would be honored to have my daughter wear a handmade dress her great grandma made for her, even if wasn't an "all decked out" like everyone elses. Feelings and family mean more than looks.

Let your daughter choose! She has to wear the dress.

It's your daughter's day. Ask her what she wants and stick to that.
