Try to put his water dish in a different place than his food dish is. Also put it in a glass or stainless steel bowl, for some reason cats don't like plastic.Put a couple of dishes around in different places, if you can. I have a total of 5 water dishes for my 2 cats, and they use all of them at some time or another. There is nothing wrong with him drinking out of the tub, however I wouldn't like him to drink from the toilet.

I've had a lot of cats in my years (not a lot of years :)) And my cats always drink from the toilet and bathtub. Be sure to always close the door when you come out of the bath room. Put the bowl next to the door and then the cat will notice it. If that doesn't work, try a different bowl, maybe a bigger, deeper one. I hope you try this. If you see him heading for the bathroom, pick it up and put it near its bowl. Hope this works!

Do you use plastic bowls? Most cats have allergies and the rubbing of the nose to plastic can cause nose discoloration or worse. Is the water located more than 6 ft. away from the food bowl? Cats tend to like their food in one place, and their drink in another. Do you change the water frequently? Remember cats can be picky, and stagnant water is not appealing.

It also can be a fascination with running water. It is by instinct that running water is more safe to drink than sitting water, so they tend to go for that. Try a fountain. My cats love to just sit and watch the water flow. They come in many styles, find the one that suits your cats' taste.

Cats (and to a lesser degree) dogs don't like stagnant water from a small pool (such as a water dish). Invest $50 in a decent fountain (such as Drinkwell), it'll last you several years, and then the temptation to drink from other sources should decrease. Only downsides include cleaning (disassemble and clean 2-3 times a year, minimum), and the clogging of the intake (should be wiped no less than monthly)

It is very common for cats not to like drinking from their bowls - it's nothing you're doing wrong, dont worry! My cat is the same! They often like to drink from baths, toilets, basins or dirty puddles outside. Some people think its because they dont like the taste of the chlorinated water that comes from the tap. Other ideas are that if a bowl is small enough to touch the cat's whiskers, they dont like drinking from it.

As long as he's getting plenty of water (water from the toilet wont harm him as long as there's no bleach etc...in it!) then he will be fine. You could also try getting him a water fountain - you can find ones that are made specially for cats, if you dont like him drinking from the toilet, they seem to like these. Ask your local petshop or look online. But I would recommend just leaving him to it.

Good idea to get a fountian for the cat. She may like the new toy and start to drink from there.
I play a game all the time with my kitten. and she is the same. Love the toilet and sink. Try mix a bit of purify water... and may be she will like that..
I have done that and she drink a little.
Good luck.

Go to the petstore and buy a fountain for the kitty. They make waterbowls that constantly cycle the water. Its called a Fresh Flow or something. Its much more like fresh water to the cat than the water bowl.

I like the 2nd answer. We just got our kitty a pet fountain at the pet store. you plug it in and runs off electricity. THe water pools up, but a little fountain, like a water fall or a drinking fountain falls down and my KITTY loves it. She used to drink out of the sink and now this is sooo much better.

frequently cats have trouble seeing up close so they don't like drinking from the bowl because they dip in too far. They sell pet fountains to solve this issue
