I believe when getting a pet (Dog/Cat etc) the whole family should be involved with the choice as it is the whole family the dog needs to bond with and vise versa.
If you really really want one take her puppy shopping, do some real research on the nature, temperment etc (They are beautiful dogs if brought up the right way).. You could even maybe let her choose.. Give her heaps of involvement because if you don't it just wont work and you will end up single again or with a girlfriend who hates the dog (Which is not good either)

Sure as long as you take care of it. Every dog I have I got behind someones back and my family and or my boyfriend in time learned to love them too. As long as I was the care taker and with time my boyfriend (now) family (then) helped. But if you just get the dog and expect her to tkae care of it, it will not work. Pit Bulls are great dogs.

I really want one too, but my boyfriend doesn't want me to get a dog. SOO, I am just waiting untill he is ready. Getting a dog while he doesn't want one is going to cause a LOT of problems. And though I REALLY want a pit bull, I still want my boyfriend more than I want a dog.

Would it be alright if she went and bought a new car behind your back? Or went and bought that bracelet she really wants behind your back? I say, if you want to keep your girlfriend, don't get the dog.
