this is probably a stupid question lol but on a rugrats episode, parts of it were taken from spike's (their dog) point of view. when the mom said something like 'spike youre a bad dog' he heard it kinda disorted and gibberish like "woh wop woh woh"

is that really the way they hear? or is it exactly the way we hear it?

I'm of the opinion that a healthy dog hears better than we do. I've never been able to sneak up on my greyhound when she's awake. I think tone is how the hear us, whether we're forceful or loving. I could be calling my cat in the same tone I call my dog, and my dog will heel to me as if I said her name.

Dogs can hear just the same as us, but it's a matter of their brain processing it. If you were to hear someone talking in Japanese, and you did'nt know it, you wouldn't know what the heck they are saying, but could kind of guess their mood by their tone and body movements. Same with dogs. Hope that helps!

Thats exactly what they hear. Dogs can be trained to understand command words but thats it. Dogs understand tone, volume and body language.

dogs have amazing hearing. they hear so many things we can't. I don't think there's much truth to the rugrats thing. I think they were just trying to illustrate thet dogs only perceive part of our language as something they recognize.

They understand some words. Some dogs understand more than others. Mostly, they can tell what you're saying by your tone.

dog do not hear like we do they only hear the tone in your voice so if your voice is in low tone they will think they are in trouble if its in a high tone they will be excited
