I would say that ricotta is the better cheese--more traditional for sure, although I most often use cottage. Why? I personally like it mixed in with sour and cream cheese and green onions which is what I layer in the lasagna. Plus, I usually always have cottage cheese on hand. I don't very often buy ricotta. There ya go..my thoughts and the reasons!
Note: if you use cottage cheese, make sure that you include a beaten egg or two in the mixture. Cottage cheese tends to carry some liquid with it and could leave your lasagna more 'soupy' than without the eggs.

My family loves lasagna and I've made it both ways. We prefer small curd cottage cheese (no need to blend it) because it is creamier and just tastes better. After layering on the cottage cheese I sprinkle it with parmesan cheese. Very tasty!

I like ricotta cheese and Parmesan cheese, because that's the only way I learned how to make it. ricotta cheese is thicker, and cottage cheese well when you cook it, it would be like milk. and when you use ricotta mix an egg with it. it thickens it more and does not fall apart as easily. Lasagna is one of my specialty

Ricotta cheese is better for lasagna. It's drier than cottage cheese, it won't make your lasagna soggy. If you can't find ricotta, try dry cottage cheese instead.

ricotta is the traditional cheese for the lasagne dish- cottage cheese is often used as a substitute (be sure to blend cottage cheese in blender before using)

ricotta is better, cottage cheese has a tendency to become more soupy.
