1987 Toyota Corolla timing belt, need tips for changing..HELP?

Have book, but don't have small enough fingers!! Problem right now is getting water pump pulley off (its in the way), got the little bolts out (took 2 hours), but not enough clearance for pully. raise or lower engine? Any tricks? Do I have to completely undo everything to replace belt? I have had to use a universal on every socket to get most of the bolts out or loose! Do they have any straight tools in japan?

engine is sideways, belt is broke.

Suggestion--

When changing the timing belt you should change the water pump even if it is not leaking.

Reason--Changing a timing belt is a major job. If the water pump needs top be changed after you changed you timing belt, you would have to re-do everything including R & R the timing belt.

Changing the water pump when everythings off will add 10-20 minutes to the timing belt job that takes about 2.5 hours.

I had my mechanic do this for me. I felt it was too much of a hassle for me.

First of all, why a timing belt? Did it break? Did water pump go bad? You shouldn't need to take the water pump off if its not bad. You will need to raise the engine to take that off. the belt shoud come off by loosing the tensionr bolt and undoing the spring that holds the tensioner in place. Be sure to get your timing correct before putting it together!

your probaly have a 4AC ENGINE SIDEWAYS MEANING IT IS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE, MY ENGINE IS STRAIGHT MEANING IT IS REAR WHEEL DRIVE. SAME ENGINE. GOOD LUCK.

I thought they were chain. Radiator out,and grille should help.
Unless its sideways.Frontwheel drive.,
