well a guy thats like half a foot shorter than me asked me to a school dance. He is the first boy that has ever asked me to a dance and of course I said yes, is that weird?

No. If height really doesn't matter to you-and it shouldn't, enjoy. Just, please consider wearing flats-nice ones to the dance. Not just for the height thing, but it will be more comfortable for you with all the dancing you and this guy will be doing. And, if you think of it, I have seen many couples where the gal is about a foot shorter than the guy. So the guy being shorter than you-no big deal. Also, you keep growing until age 21-22. He might end up at your height, or taller as he gets older. Look at his personality-he sounds like a good guy. Take care.

It's just a dance and you may find out that he's the sweetest person in the world. Anyway I'm 5'7'' and taller ladies don't like me has much has the ones shorter than me for the same reason. You're handsome but to short is a hard rejection. Anyway short guys need love to!

No, not a problem at all. Not weird. Easy for me to say as the tallest girl I ever dated was 6' tall feisty redhead , and I still towered over her.
The only potential problem I see down the road is your choice of footwear. If you like wearing high heels and you tower of the little fella, it could be a problem for him if he lacks self-confidence or fusses over his vertical challenges.
This is something you might have to address if the relationship goes beyond 1 single dance. In the meantime, enjoy your night out. Worry about tomorrow tomorrow, and don't worry about what your friends think.

I normally can't do the "short guy thing" because it makes me feel uncomfortable. That's just my thing though, but if it works for you, go for it!!!!
