Or at least tell me what you think is wrong...

About a week ago, I began to get a bad cold: stuffy nose, headaches, coughing, ect. By Wednesday I felt much better, but then on Thursday morning, I woke up and felt like I was swallowing needles. I went to the doctor yesterday with a fever of 101, and I thought it was strep. When they gave me the strep test, it tested negative...but the doctor still insisted that it was strep. I was a little annoyed that he did not do more testing to see what it is. He gave me antibiotics, but the pain is still very severe, and my glands (in my neck) are so swollen you can see them through my neck.

Nothing I do is making the pain go away (and I've had strep so many times I have quite a few methods).

I'm surprised your doctor thought it was strep, even though the test was negative. It is more likely just a bad virus, which is really worse than strep in a way because there is nothing, but time, that will make it get better. At least strep responds really quickly to antibiotics, obviously they have no effect on viruses. My son has had a similar virus this past week and had very swollen glands and "needles" in his throat. The only things that really helped were ibuprofen for swelling and achiness, hot showers and gargling with warm, salt water three times a day. This last thing is VERY helpful. The salt helps soothe the throat. You could also try warming a little honey and lemon juice in the microwave and then drinking it. This will coat your throat and make it feel better. Good luck and get well soon.

Hi love is war,if you are over 30-then pay attention. To get rid of your sore throat- you want to try a mild salt solution in warm water.Gargle 3 times per day till it goes away.Assuming you have strep-antibiotics will help.Problem with antibiotics is like going hunting with a nuke.It kills all including screwing up your immune system. My suggestion is to get a complete physical to find what's really wrong. When it's all over do something good for your body ,the only one you will ever have!Visit 4health411.com

Its very possible that you do indeed have a "strep" infection and it involves the lymph glands lying under the angel of the jaw.You can go back to your MD if the conditions worsens and the pain gets bad or go to the ER this weekend .Its usually something that you have to wait for the antibiotics to kick in,before it can get better.Take care . If the doc gave you a script for antibiotics I would take them, if you haven't. It usually takes 24-48 hours for them to really start working.
Swollen lymph nodes could be a sign of mono, or worse leukemia,
Have you tried those lozenges that have an anasthetic property, they may give you some relief too. If your not better by Monday or you get worse go back to the doc tomorrow.
Good luck.

Mono is what it sounds like to me,you'll need a throat culture done to find out for sure.

It could be mono, which is a flu like/cold symptom thing...You should seriously look into it. It's contagious by kissing, drinking after other people etc.
