The only difference between windows vista and windows xp is the security features (nothing that great) and the interface (the way it looks). Xp can basically do anything Vista can. Its only worth getting Vista if you need to buy a new computer, but if you just want to buy the operating system then you should stick to XP.

The preferred version of Vista is Home Premium which costs around £150 the full version is a lot more. I have seen Vista and it is well worth the change to it. As Office 2007, IE7 and MSN Live Mail have all been developed for it it seem the sensible way forward to me. IE 7 is not fully compatable with XP and i would expect Office 2007 to be the same. Save yourself some money in the long run and go the VIsta route make sure you get at least 1Mb Ram though. Although Vista says it will run on 512 best play safe for future upgrades. I am going for a minimum of 2Mb.

Get Vista if you are getting a new computer. If you don't and find that it is a big improvement on xp you will regret not having had it for free.
To buy it later it will cost you.
The ideal solution would be to delay the purchase of your new computer until any bugs have been ironed out.
If there are any bugs it will usually be because of its interaction with other software and drivers which will in time be sorted out through the update process.

I think for now u should just stick to XP because there are very few applications compatible with vista so you wont be able to utilise your pc much, compare to XP. The other factor could be the cost.In future you can upgrade to Vista.

I strongly recommend you to ignore Vista - it is just terrible.
XP also mustn't be called the best, but it is Ok for the users (but not for programmers).
As for me the best is Win98SE. Do you know, why did Bill Gates decide to finish supporting it? It was his first operating system after MS-DOS, which was fully safe and well-made, but he needs to get more ad more money, so he decided to create new operating systems. Have you ever heard about service-packs for Win98SE? I don't think so. And, by the way, Win98SE and later versions of the Windows are different, so there won't be a singl virus for Win98SE within a few years.
If you wih, you can read a text in Russian, in which I've expressed my opinion. http://www.DimonSoft.ueuo.com/texts/Windows1.php

Microsoft never fully develop their operating systems before releasing them, they use us the general public to finish their work for them & tell them what the glitches are.
Wait a while before upgrading & most of the bugs will have been ironed out by then.
