I just had mine done today at H&R and the fee went down. From $249 to $208. It depends how many forms they have to use and how many W2's you have. It is a fee seperate from your tax return. Taxes...we'll pay them til we die!

If I understand the question.... Are you talking about the preparation fee charged by the tax preparer? If so, yes with a couple conditions. You will need to go to a larger Tax company. HR Block, Jackson Hewitt, etc. Also there will be an addtional fee, usually starting at $25.

If you do your own, there isn't a fee. And unless you have something pretty complicated, you could probably do your own.

If you take it to a company like H&R Block, you probably have the option to pay up front or have them deduct the fee from your refund if you have one, but having them deduct it would probably cost you more.

Give it a try yourself - if you get stuck, you can ask more questions here - or look for a VITA site near you, since there won't be any fees there. For more info on VITA, see irs.gov

Don't know; I've never paid a fee. But, then again, I've done my own returns all the time.

It depends where you go. I know H &R Block can do it both ways.but I think it cost more if they take it out. I just wrote out a check, and I get my money in 16 days. good luck.
