It depends what kind of bird you have. Some are very docile and open to other birds, same or opposite sex, and some are very territorial and will fight to the death with intrusive birds, again, same or opposite sex.
If you want another bird, keep them in separate cages. It's a lot safer that way because if they're mismatched and unfriendly with each other, you're not risking injury for either bird if they can't physically get to each other. As long as you're there supervising 110%, you can definitely allow them to interact outside of the cage. If the two do bond, it's true - they'll have MUCH more interest in each other than you or other people.

Another male bird will not be good. They will probably fight. But if you get a female they are more likely to get on. This will depend on how long your bird has been on his own, how big the cage is, the temperament of the bird, etc.Try them in cages side by side to start with, to see the reaction.

it all depends what kind of bird and its personality. i would say the best thing to do is to get another cage and just put the cages next to each other and then let both out at the same time with you watching. they might take a while to get along. they might never get along. you shoudl always spend time with both birds sepritly so they still get the attension they need and want from you. remember who was your bird first , you cant just ignore them cause they have a friend.
catch.

If you want another bird, you can just get a second cage, and then keep the cages somewhat close to each other. We've got more than one, but I've got them all in separate cages.

it depends on the type of bird. I believe Canaries, Finches and Budgerigars will be all right together with two males. They will tend to pay a bit less attention to you though with another bird present.
They will be happier though while you are away.

Have her watch 10 issues I Hatwe about You...... jk. i imagine basically wait it out, there cages might want to easily might want to be edge by potential of edge. Or, rehome her =( to a unmarried chicken homestead, and get a unique lady for the male. (definite i understand it sounds terrible) My Budgie does the comp element too. he will nip my hand off the mousepad lol.
