My favorite is the Merlequin (like a harlequin, but with merle spots), then the merles and harlequins. I do not have a Dane yet, but I am going to get one eventually.

I wasn't aware that they will give full registration to AKC dogs that have limited registration. What is the purpose in that? I understand that it's not the same as all the crap registries out there, but there is a reason dogs are put on limited registration. Limited registration is an ethical breeder's recourse to a dog not passing on less than desirable genes, and if we stand up and say the UKC is just as reputable, then we're going to have a lot more poorly bred dogs out there than we already do. You may dislike the current show standards for some breeds, but they have nothing to do with the AKC. I assume that as far as conformation is concerned (though feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), the same parent club standards are used to judge in the UKC as they are in the AKC, so why the predjudice toward the AKC in that regard? The AKC sanctions field events as well as conformation, so all AKC recognized breeds are just as welcome to compete there as in the UKC. Now that I think of it, there are DQ's that I'm aware of that are allowed in conformation by the UKC, so I'm not sure what standards they use to judge against ETA: The UKC appears to set their own standards. I just checked the standard of my breed and a couple more I know a little about. They appear to adhere to the same standards for the most part, but have made 'revisions' in some areas. The thing I don't like about that is, we have no idea who is making those allowances and changes, and their experience and knowledge in a particular breed. Is it simply to allow dogs to be shown that are DQ'd by breed parent club standards, or is there a REAL purpose behind it? I don't see any changes to my breed's standards that point toward improvement in the breed

I don't have danes, but have always loved them. I'm partial to the fawns with the harlequins next.

I love dogs period. Danes are one of my favourite breeds, but I couldn't choose my favourite color coat. If I were to get any dog I would have to see him/her and pick my new baby out by personality.
