He is a pathological liar, master bullshitter and very obnoxious. Everyone else despises him, too. But they are mean to him. So he hangs out with me MORE. What can I do? I don't want to be rude. But I don't think I can take this any longer. He's also not above backstabbing, taking credit for my work, etc.

Pathological liars will get themselves caught at one time or another, just be patient and kind, but you do not have to like his actions because lieing is wrong. I

Stay away from him. Ignore him. He will get the hint. If he doesn't, then you are going to have to tell him why you don't want him hanging around you.

Ok,
one thing you should do is:
Confront with him politely.
tell him that he makes you feel very uncomfortable.
If he does not understand...
just ignore him...
