There is only one country on earth who would believe they were capable of beating Great Britain and thats the US. We have a very powerful military which for its size is by far the strongest on earth. The total size is around 180000 but it is capable at deploying anywhere, in short time and highly capable of offensive warfare. When we had our empire it was kept in check by just 30,000 soldiers which is a very small amount when compared to the 100million+ people it was controlling. We are specialists in using small numbers to achieve huge goals. Even the US would find it difficult to beat us and although I admit they would I dont think they would be capable of being a world power any longer.

There is talk amongst the military that it will soon be increased and new technology is being bought. Already the Royal Navy is waiting on 2 new aircraft carriers, 8 type 45 destroyers and various other ships and aircraft. The RAF is awaiting new aircraft the JSF F-35. This is a joint anglo US operation so we have provided our own technology and money. The aircraft carriers and destroyers are ours aswell. Dont forget Britain has BEA systems, the second biggest defence manufacturer on earth.

QUOTE" When it comes to nuclear weapons, visions of uncoupling Britain from the US ignore a few realities that our senior politicians never mention. As Dan Plesch, the London-based academic and author who has made it his business to shine light on these things, points out, Britain's current nuclear weapons system (and, indeed, the one that looks likely to replace it) is umbilically linked to the US. The missiles themselves are leased from the US government. They depend on American maintenance - carried out at a base in King's Bay, Georgia - and American software. All this has one crucial upshot: though we got them on the cheap, paying as little as a 10th of the sum they would have cost if we built and maintained them ourselves, they fail what Plesch calls "the 1940 test": if we were at war without the say-so of the US, we probably couldn't use them. "The current system is like an insurance policy that the insurer can take away if they don't want you to use it," he says. "And how bad a deal is that?" ...UNQUOTE

We HAVE the MILITARY MUSCLE.. what we don't have is the POLITICAL muscle to authorise payment of what the UK Military NEED in order to get any mission completed that the Govt of the day order us in to do.... it's unfortunate that hell will freeze over before we have a Govt with the balls to make sure our Military have the neccessary BASIC equipment for each and every service personnel before ordering them into dangerous conflicts, as well as all the equipment, resources and troops... but hey-ho, given that the photocall is THE MOST important issue for them what does it matter about resources and equipment NEEDED - not wanted mind you - for a job they would not do themselves to get done by men and women who have been trained for such missions and paid for by the tax-payers....?

Its easy for Tony Bliar(sic) to make a PROMISE on 7th Oct 2006 promising what whatever UK troops WANTED.. wanted mind you not NEEDED... they would have... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5414974.stm ...it's 11 February today, and they are still waiting for more troops on the ground and more resources in AFGHANISTAN - the REAL SOURCE of this recent war on terrorism. Granted a few hundred troops have been sent there recently... but THOUSANDS MORE are NEEDED...and TODAY... not tomorrow !

Very much so, The westland lynx is the fastest Helicopter in the world and is possibly the most agile there is, The Tornado is the fastest of all the strike aircraft in the world at low level (low level being 60ft not the American version of low level ,250ft!!!)

When things go **** up and American personnel are captured its the SAS that are called upon to go and rescue them.

We do have military muscle but the way the British government is getting rid of it we won't have a military left at all.

No they've retired their military and decided on a new strategy of solving conflicts by sitting down and resolving their differences over some crumpets and tea.
