Theres this I work with and I know he likes me and wants to ask me out for Valentines Day. He has brought up the topic and I change the subject. I have been avoiding him which I know is horrible. I dont want to hurt him but I only see him as a friend. I hate being such a pushover.

Just tell him you don't date people you work with. It's a pretty sensible policy to adopt anyway.

Here's How:
Don't lead the person to believe you may be interested.
Be polite and smile.
Get to the point quickly.
Tell them you appreciate their interest in you but your feelings toward them aren't the same.
Be nice; don't say you'd rather be friends if you have no intention of staying friendly.
Make it as painless as possible by being direct and NOT saying something like, 'if things were different.'
Don't over explain or make excuses -- you are not interested, plain and simple.
Tips:
You may think that being blunt seems mean but, in fact, it is much more mean to let somebody who doesn't have a chance with you think that they might.
Maintain eye contact, keep a calm and steady tone, smile and be polite.
Remember that the person being rejected may get angry and call you names -- don't take it personally, it is anger talking.
Remember that the person being rejected may act desperate to get you to change your mind -- don't give in to the antics.

Ok, I see that some people on here suggested making some excuse up or telling him you're not ready for a relationship. C'mon that stuff is so lame. Just tell the guy the truth, why is that so difficult? It's much more respectful to be honest with someone. You can tell him the truth and still be respectful and tactful about it.

it takes more time and energy to avoid someone!! you should be honest, but in a respectful manner. be considerate of his feelings but be firm when you explain that your intentions are only friendship with this person. his feelings may be hurt, but in my experience people will respect you a lot more when your honest! don't think of this as a reject because something good is still coming out of it, and thats a FRIENDSHIP!!!

That's fair, but we males need you to be blunt with us. The light rejections don't work. Be brutally honest with us; it is possible to do this nicely. And if our feelings are hurt, its ok. We'll get over that. Honesty is best, and don't be afraid to say "no".

No body likes to hear no. Put him down gentley. Don`t say, "No, I don`t like you that way." Believe me, that hurts a lot o.O. Tell him something like, "I`m sorry, but you`re not my type of guy. I`d be happy to be your friend, but in a relationship?? I`m sorry..." and try to look REALLY sorry. That`s always worked for me.

company relationship, never really turn out well, unless you are already marryed. but the answer to your question is to be straight foward and honest, and tell he you are not interested ,in a nice way like I am not looking for a relationship at this time, and please dont make it worse by leading a person on, because we can not help whom is attracted to use.

Confront this person face to face, being open and honest is the best policy. That's what a true friend would do.
