I got mine when I was a grown man still trying to figure out why. Now they are there everyday to remind me of how much Ive changed since then. My precious daughter will see them and ask why did I get them, when I am old and gray, I will see them and they will make me remember how stupid I was. Isnt it stupid to say " I got them to remind me of something or someone?" I cant being only a few years after getting them figure out why. If you say that you gave it some serious thought before you got yours, you are exempt from this question.

I have about 20 tattoo's if you design them put thought and get them with a meaning or you really just like the art. why would they be stupid if that's stupid then so is coloring your hair and getting your ears pierced.. Just because one is social acceptable and the other isn't or isn't as much so ,doesn't mean it is stupid..What isn't a good idea is going to any artist without researching there work and picking any old thing off the wall that any one could have , but if that's what you want to do by all means do it just know it could turn out badly and/or you can see many people with that same tat.

I think to get one without knowing WHY you are getting one is stupid. So, I guess I'm saying tat's are not stupid, but you were for getting one without knowing why. Maybe you shoould keep the tat as a reminder to think before you do something that you have no idea why you are doing it, that there are consequences for impulsive behavior and sometimes being cool, isn't because you were just posing and not really into the tat. I think your daughter might appreciate that her dad learned a lesson from it and might learn something from you! You need to make lemonade from this lesson! Blessings- dd
P.S. You can always cover it with something that honors your daughter!

I had thought about getting a tattoo off and on for several years, but didn't give it serious thought. One day, I just did it. I don't see my tattoo as something that I will look back on and judge myself as stupid. I see it as simply a part of my life. Of course, I live my life forward and not backward. I see regrets and judgements as hindrances and wastes of energy. As others have said in previous answers, you could look into having it removed. But why erase part of whom you were? Those days made you whom you are today. And you sound like a great guy.

I, too, have a child, and when he was old enough to see mine (it's on the back of my neck), he thought it was cool. Incidently, he is now 12 and, although he likes mine, he doesn't want one. I, however, plan on getting a couple more.

So, no, tattoos are not stupid.

They're not stupid, as long as you had a profesional artist do them. It's art, just on a different canvas. Every tattoo tells a story or a memory. It's something you keep forever, as a reminder of a time in your life. They help you cope with emotional pain or burden, and they show that you're not afraid to be unique.

I think that it's good or bad depending on the individual. I got mine a couple of weeks ago (i'm 29) and I planned mine out and designed it for almost a year before I got it. I don't think it's something that I'm going to regret and the tattoo is of and about my daughter. It's my own little "tribute" to her and the fact that my husband and I had her. Having her isn't something that's going to change. The tattoo of her is actually my avatar for this thing...it's a side portrait of her and I'm getting her Chinese name (her real Chinese name from birth) added in a couple of months.

Hind sight is 20/20.

Some people feel they're stupid, or grow out of the idea like you did. Others love them and see them as a form of self-expression and never regret them.

But I also know plenty of people to do regret theirs. I have a friend who got a name of someone tattooed on them and then had to pay a bunch of cash to get a bigger tattoo to cover up the name when they didn't want it there anymore.

I don't think it's fair to generalize and say that they're stupid outright. Different strokes for different folks, ya know?

I guess I should be exempt from this because I did put alot of thought into my tattoo, & am VERY happy I got it. However I will say that anyone that gets a tat. without putting alot of thought into it is stupid. It is a permanent thing.... not to be entered into lightly.

I personally would NEVER won't one. But no they're not stupid. Alot of people get them to remind the of something. I knew someone who got 2 dolphins to remind her of her two daughters. So it depends.

It's our body to do what we want with. Yes, I think some tattoos are stupid, but everyone has their reasons for getting them. Even if they don't know why. I don't have any though.

haha! some tattoos are stupid but i think it depends on how well your tattoo speaks for you. for instance, two of the tattoos i have i thought about for atleast three years. but one of them i only thought about for about six months before i got it. but it is my favorite tattoo. it means the most to me because it represents my family. all of my tattoos are unique and not flash and that is one thing that i am happy for. i hope that when i have children they will see the kind of person i am and they will see my tattoos and know that stereotypes aren't always true. also when i have kids they will see my parents tattoos and know that grandparents can be grandparents and still have tattoos and not be weird... or any weirder than they already are. i love my tattoos and i hope that i always will. i'm sorry you feel differently about your own tho.
