I have an OPPO DV-970HD dvd player that supports DIVX. I burned some .DIVX files to a CD-R using NERO and the dvd player says "Unknown Disc". What am I doing wrong? Are there some settings that need to be configured in the Nero Burning setup in order for the disc to play properly in my player?

I have successfully played a free DIVX demo disc that I got at a conference (made by DIVX) in the player.

As TV Guy mentioned. There are formats of Divx and that could be the problem. I have had problems with screen size that would not let the file play. That said it still does not explain the 'unknown disc' issue. Finalize?

Make sure the disc is finalized.
There are also lots of version of Divx, make sure you record in the formats supported by the player.

Your DVD player won't play because it is not certified by DivX. You need a software like Roxio to burn CD/DVD in different format.
