Why Do People Bleach their skin?

I think that people like what is different, that is why in communities where white skin predominates, you find people fixed on tanning their skin, and the darker the better.
On the other hand in communities where dark skin predominates, white skin is coveted and bleaching creams are there to fill that need. India banned the ads for those creams, which essentially say that white is beautiful and dark is not.
I think that people should accept their colour, but whenever they do not, products will be found that fullfill those needs.

I believe that society places a higher premium on lighter complexions so some people with darker skin tones have developed an inferiority complex in regards to this issue. I think that regardless of what external social pressures may suggest, one should be content with the appearance that they were born with. Skin bleaching is simply another reminder that certain prejudices continue to negatively affect how people view themselves and others.

Because they are stupid and caught up in apperances. They can not appreciate the beauty that God has blessed them with.
Yes I am white, so I wouldn't need to bleach my skin, but I think the different tones of skin colors make people beautiful. The dark tones, medium tones and light tones add individuality to people and their "look" and people should just learn to see true beauty for what it is>

I do it when I have poison ivy. It dries up the poison and stops the itching. Also burns like heck, but I don't suppose that is what you meant.

It used to be mainly for dark spots or circles..now it's a groupie thing...
