i suffer greatly from myofacial pain in my upper back and shoulders.I also at seaminly radom times experience extreme sensation of internal pressure in neck and base of skull. Does anyone know what might cause this pressure sensation.

Althought the pressure is extreme it is more alarming than it is painful.

It's referred pain from your upper back muscle probs. The trapezius goes up your neck too..there's lots of little scaline muscles that are all connected too.

You really need to be examined by a physician to determine what is causing the pressure and pain. It could be from muscle spasm, a migraine headache, or pressure on a nerve where it emerges from the spine. Your history of this problem, a physical examination and complete description of other symptoms are needed to determine the cause.

If the problem is caused by muscle spasms, the pain would tend to coincide with a having a stiff back, neck or shoulders. If the problem is caused by migraine, it would tend to follow a set pattern of sensations that include things like visual oddities, feelings of being too hot or too cold, and hypersensitivity to sight, sound, or touch. If the problem is caused by pressure on a nerve emerging from the spine, this would show up on an MRI and the pain would tend to be associated with moving the head or holding the head in a certain position.
