Atomic bombs used to end WWII and favorite subject of liberal historical revisionism...

Besides being the code names for the two different types of Atomic bombs used on Japan, they were also a humorous jab at Winston Churchill (fat man) and Roosevelt (little boy).

The LITTLE BOY was the first bomb used. It was a U-235 bomb made from enriched uranium. To get it, we had to figure out how to separate the U235 from the U238 in naturally occurring uranium. That was a major problem and took a lot of time as there was a lot of U238 and not much U235....Today they use a process using gas centrifuges. (Which is why the fact that IRAN has so many gas centrifuges leads us to believe they are working on a bomb.) It was made using two hemispheres of U235 that were in a pipe like chamber, slammed together with an explosive charge at each end of the pipe. After they made it, they realized it could go off by accident if dropped or if one of the two charges went off. They never made another one like it.

The FAT MAN was the second bomb used. It had two improvements over the THIN MAN. First, it was a P239 bomb made from plutonium. They figured out if the stuck the depleted uranium (U238) in a reactor, they could convert it to P239 which was just as good at making a bomb. Since they had a lot of U238, they could make a lot of P2389.... Second, it used a disassembled sphere of cone shaped wedges of Plutonium. The only way it could go off is if ALL of the explosive charges went off at exactly the same time, driving the cone wedges down into a perfect sphere. The design was so radical, they had to test this so used one at Trinity Site in the first nuclear test.

The design of FAT MAN proved to be good. When the USAF accidental dropped a 5 Meg nuke on Albuquerque, NM in the 1950s, it did not go off. So the USAF was very confident when it claimed a nuke could not go off by accident. Later plane crashes with nukes on board also supported their claim.

You have the answer. You knew the answer when you asked the question. The first and second A bombs dropped on Japan. By the way they thought we were just as evil as we were taught about them. Thousands and thousands of Japaneese people committed suicide when they thought that the US was going to invade. They were told that we would rape and kill all of the women and children. Most contries believe what their government want them to know.

Now pick the person who answered right first, OK?
