Okay, so I want to hang out with my crush today, and he hasn't been on IM, and I don't want to wait around for him to get on. I want to call him, but then again I don't because a) I hate talking on the phone, b) if his parents pick up I'm afraid it will be awkward, and c) Should I follow that old-fashioned "wait for him to call you" rule? And if he already has something planned for today, I don't want to feel like I'm intruding on anything. But I miss him and really want to see him. Should I call him or not?

Yes. Call him. All of your excuses are not important to him. If you want to talk to him, he will want to talk to you.
