I think this only represents things that are controversial.

The example given by Paul in I Corinthians had to do with people who had been raised to believe that idols were living deities. In their minds, eating this meat was a celebration of those entities, whatever they happened to be.
When they became Christians, their upbringing didn't just go away. They turned away from those religions but didn't stop believing in the existence of the gods themselves. For them, eating the meat and paying respect to them was an affront to their new God, and Paul advised leaders and foreign Christians to avoid it if they found others around them who were like this.
Today, this specific example has no meaning to us. There may be other things that relate, but they're rare.

THis particular story is explaining about our maturity in our faith, not about our faith itself.
Paul knew that now all was allowed, and he also knew that newer Christians were not as learned or knowlegable as to what they could and could not do.
So, his answer to all of the Christians was this. Yes, you can eat the meat that has been offered up to this non existant, false God by those who believe in it. BUT, if eating this mean, causes one "young" or less knowledgable in the faith to stumble (be confused), then do not eat it. Eating the meat just because you know that its ok, and leaving another questioning your own faith and if they should follow that way would be much more harmful to others.
This can and should be applied today. Young people are always looking for ways to make themselves different from their parents generation. Although being a devout Christian and dressing as a gothic pagen would not be sinful in Gods eyes, it could cause others young in their faith to question the sincerity and faith of the one dressing in this manner.
There are many more examples, including tattoos, body piercing, immodest dressing etc.

Well, since the number of idol-worshipping religions has drastically decreased since Christianity became the majority religion of Europe, you are very unlikely to find meat which has been sacrificed to idols.

When you might be around some one so immature they can not understand that meat and where meat comes from and the process to cook it comes from God Almighty, it does not belong to man made and man created idol, just because they say so, it belongs to God and to God alone, but immature minds can not think that rational. So to
keep them from thinking about it, which might sway them away from the truth or make
them doubt those who love the truth, make sure they understand all you do, and all you eat.

You may freely eat anything you see as good. All things are made clean by the atonement Christ provided and it is not what goes into a man that defiles him but that which comes out of him. do not eat anything that your conscience tells you is a sin but that is only because of your conscience as all things are good to eat and are blessed. Are you Christian? You do understand the meaning of being a Christian? We are not under the law as the Jews and the Muslims but by faith are already new creatures we do not worship God by traditions of man and law but in spirit and in truth. Read Romans 6. I believe that if you were to have a meal and the meat was offered directly in the presence of an idol or if someone prayed to another God than Jesus.
