Due to the antagonism of the National Education Association and the heavily-political state and national teacher's unions, it appears that school vouchers will not be available in any national funding way. Education is still regarded as the role of the states and the local public school districts. The same antagonism would probably apply to private companies taking over school education, whether it be by school districts, or statewide. Could the private sector educate students more economically? Probably, given the amount of waste, since the private and parochial school districts seem to accomplish more and better education with less investment-per-pupil . But I just don't see it happening on a state basis, except for perhaps special --education needs of students that cannot be mainstreamed into regular classes. .

Privatization often decreases costs and increases quality. It is easy for public schools to be lax when parents don't have any other choices. Allowing parents to decide which school their children go to (along with which school will get their money) will make schools compete and improve the quality of education children are receiving.
