It's easier to spread if you buy the cream cheese in a tub. Looks like a margarine container and not the one in cartons (which look like butter). Then, just use a regular butter knife to smear it on the bagel. The bagel, by the way, should be sliced like a regular dinner roll. You spread the cream cheese on the inside (white part of the bagel/bread) and not on the shiny outside part / exterior of the bagel.

I don't know how you do it. I cut the bagel in half lengthwise and spread cream cheese with a butter knife on both of the cut sides of the bagel. My sister cuts hers crosswise and spreads all the rounds with cream cheese. There is no set rule when it comes to bagels and cream cheese. I hope that I have been some help to you.

I like putting a dollop of cream cheese the half bagel and nuking for 10 seconds. Warms it up and it's easier to spread with a knife.

with a butterknife. it the cheese is to hard leave it out for a couple of min. and it will be easier to spred!!! :)
