My 18 month old daughter has been running a fever for the past two days. I took her to the Dr. yesterday & he said she has the flu & prescribed Tylenol & an anit flu medication.I thought it might be an ear infection or teething causing her temp. to go up (102.3), but the Dr. checked both her ears & said they looked fine...yet, she has been crying non-stop & this morning when she woke up, I noticed an almost pussy orange fluid draining out of her ear. What could this be? Should I take her to Urgent Care? Would an infection be causing this type of discharge? Or a rupture?

Did she seem to feel better after you found the fluid? If so it was most likely a rupture. When this happens the pressure is relieved and the pain decreases dramaticly. I would go to a different doctor for a second opinion if I were you. If her temp goes up again alternate tylenol and ibuprofen every 4 to 6 hours and that will help keep it down. Also warm not cool baths help. Sounds like an ear infection and need an antibiotic.

My advice is to call your doctor and tell him what is going on and ask him if she needs to be seen again. She probably has a bad ear infection and needs antibiotics. I would reccomend seeing a new doctor if I were you. I think your first doctor may not know what he is doing. If you need to I would take your daughter to a care now clinic or something and see if you cant get any medicine for her. Good luck and I hope she gets well soon.
