There is a simple way to do it. For a guy it's quite easy.

Just stand behind the girl. Put your hands on her waist or hips (depending on how comfertable you feel with her.) If you are way taller than her, bend your knees a bit. Have your feet spread a little bit apart. As for the actual dancing, just move your knees. Not your hips. When you move your knees, your hips follow, and it looks a lot better. Just do this following the beat, and moving the same way as the girl.

The best way to learn how to do this is - no joke - practice by yourself listening to a good dancing song. SexyBack is a good one because it has a constant beat that never slows down. Doing this will get you good enough that you won't look like a total idiot on the dancefloor, then once you start dancing, you'll get even better.

Most importantly, be confident. Don't look really awkward or uncomfortable or this WILL be extremely awkward. If you're having fun, smile a little bit. Just be calm and loose and you'll do great.

...so basically if you've had sex before, you know how...duh

if you're a girl, it's all in the hips. if you have no rhythm, that's a little tough. if you're a guy...that's weird.
