Well, birds tweet, too, but I don't let it bother me. Neighbors get up early while it's still dark, open and shut doors, turn on cars engines, and make other incidental noise...I just tune it out. Life is FAR too short to worry about something so trivial as barking dogs. You just relegate it to "background noise"...just like ticking clocks and furnace or air conditioners turning on and off. If it's really annoying, you can always turn on something that hums to create white noise. Look at it this way...everyday brings challenges and obstacles, some bigger than others. If a barking dog is the worst challenge you face all day, then it will have been a pretty good day. The size of the things that bother you tell you a lot about yourself--just some food for thought.

Lots of people buy dogs so that they will bark and let the owners know when something is wrong. I don't think that this is the case in point. When a dog keeps barking all of the time for no reason, this is is a problem and it bothers me a great deal. Where I live. More than one home owner has to complain before the police will do anything about it. People shouldn't own pets that they can't take care of. Why would anyone get a dog as a pet and leave it outside that long anyway?? The average dog has a mentality of a 8 year old child, would these same people leave their children outside crying this long?

Across the road from us, lives a family with a rottweiler and an American cocker spaniel these dogs are left outside all year round and at night the cocker does nothing but bark and bark and bark and bark. The fact that we live in the country does not change how annoying it is to be kept awake by someones barking dog, things are so bad that a neighbour even further down the road has complained about this.
It not only bothers us, deprives us of sleep, but causes neighbourhood tension and when ;you live where we do, you want your neighbours to be your best friend and these ignoramus beep just don;t get it.

It bothers me mostly because it means the dog is not being taken proper care of. What I mean is any dog can be taught when and where to bark and any dog can be taught to not bark.
If I hear my dog barking, then I am happy because he is trying to tell me that I forgot something again. He only barks until he gets my attention and when told he stops. If it wasn't for that bark I would start a fire on the stove or forget that the tap was running. My neighbors knew his bark, to them it wasn't about being annoyed because they knew I needed help.
I am most bothered by the sound of a debarked dog. I knew one women who "debarked" her dog because she didn't want to be bothered with really training the dog. The sad thing is the dog still tried to bark constantly. It sounded like a sick seal.
Everyone is different, I hate the sound of ticking clocks and will remove every battery from them just so I can sleep. To each their own I guess.

When I was very young, my first apartment was literally about 20 or 30 yards from a train track. Somehow, I became used to this and was able to sleep peacefully through the night. Barking dogs generally do not bother me much, but I worry if they are getting no attention from their owners -- it's often a sign of boredom. Try talking calmly with the owners, hopefully they will take steps to decrease the noise.

As a dog owner, I work hard to make sure my dogs don't bark excessively and bother our neighbors. That's just being polite. One neighbor of mine liked it when my dogs howled at sirens. He is a HAM radio enthusiast and has poor hearing and my dogs howling tell him when something is going on so he can tune in. Overall though, i try and keep my dogs quiet.
As someone who works at an airport, I've found that there are people who complain constantly about aircraft noise, and others who could care less. Why the ones who hate aircraft noise move close to an airport is beyond me.
I am so used to aircraft noise I hardly even hear it anymore. But the gardener running the lawnmower outside my office drives me nuts. Go figure.....
Some people are sensitive to noise and others aren't. Some kinds of noises don't bother some people while other noises are very disturbing.

I can't stand it when people do not stop their dogs from barking incessantly. It's rude, it's crass, it's irresponsible. It's a facet of the same mentality that you see displayed when small kids run feral in a grocery store knocking into shoppers while Mom reads the tabloids, oblivious to her shrieking brats.
I'm fairly sensitive to noises, as you are. I don't blast the neighborhood with my sound system. I keep our dogs quiet and under control. I appreciate when the courtesy is returned, but so often it is not. To me, creating unnecessary loud noise is just as objectionable as starting a tire fire in the back yard and blanketing the neighborhood in stench. We shouldn't do these things because they make the surroundings nasty for others. Why some people have no consideration for their neighbors is beyond my comprehension.

Barking dogs do bother me, especially the little yappy barks that go non stop. My brother has a dachshund that barks NON stop. My brother and his wife can easily just ignore it. While it drives me up a wall. I think some people learn to drown out certain sounds and just ignore them. Like when i try to study i can study in a pretty busy area, with a lot of people, while that drives my boyfriend crazy. But i have learned to drown it out because i grew up with lots of brothers and sisters, there was never a quiet moment in the house, so i had to learn to ignore it. Maybe it is like that for people with yappy dogs.

I would say barking dogs doesn't bother me as much as some people because I've been more or less desensitized. I work in a vet clinic, and the kennel area can get quite noisy when one of them decides to teach everyone to sing! It drove me CRAZY at first, but now I really don't even notice sometimes. There are certain dog noises that do bug me, though. Howling is fine. Barking for the most part is fine. But one of my dogs has this REALLY annoying bark when he's baring at nothing. I can tell the difference between the barks when he's barking at something or when he's just barking to hear himself make noise. I also don't like the sound of dgos chewing/licking themselves because it always means trouble. Whining to get outside or to get attention is fine with me, but whining/yelping because of pain/discomfort bothers me. Even dogs barking late at night when their owners leave them outside doesn't really get to me because the neighbors around me do it ALL the time and if it bugged me I'd be in a mental institution now! I also don't mind the dogs barking at the door to come in. I just yell "I'm coming!" and go let them in, and they stop. There is this one dog at the clinic that has a piercing bark though, and that I can't stand at all. One bark out of her and I can't stand it. That's why we have this wonderful device caled a "Pet Agree" ultrasonic thingymajigger. It makes a really high-pitched noise and makes MOSt dogs stop barking, though some seem to not hear it at all. Cat noises really don't bother me at all, and I tend to ignore cat sounds.
What REALLY annoys me is my mom yelling at the dogs to shut up because it just makes them bark more. I tell them calmy to be quiet, and they stop. The only time they don't stop when I do that is if someone's at the door (which is usually the only time they bark, with a few exceptions, of course), and then I appreciate it. I usually take on of the big dogs with me to the door, especially at night, just in case.
