Don't you hate it?
Damn kids don't realise that by the time their parents/grandparents jumped into the war, the japanese had already bombed the crap outta all their toy boats at Pearl Harbour and Germany had declared WAR on THEM - they had no choice.
They stood by and watched while we had our backs to the wall until we were bankrupt as a nation and there was no wall left - just the Atlantic Ocean.
My father served with the 8th Army in North Africa. These were the days when they had so little water that they were FORBIDDEN to wash or shave. If they urinated, it had to be into the overheating radiators of their vehicles, which were more like trucks than armoured tanks. If you didn't pee enough to keep the trucks on the road, you almost got court-martialled.
They had one rifle and five rounds between every three of them. If they ran out of ammunition, they were trained in how to turn it around and use it as a club. If you were stoopid enough to cut yourself on the sharp end called a bayonet, make sure you bleed into one of the radiators.
And the americans came and saved our sorry asses? Yeah right - and the world is flat too.
We have Stephen Hawking - They have Jar-Jar Binks.

Nationalist twaddle as usual!! Nationalism somehow clouds history and most people seem to believe it.
We owe the USA allot more than people think, if the USA had not established democracy under a 1 man 1 vote system do you really think that things would have changed in Britain? We only got the vote in 1919!!. Any Briton worth anything pissed off to the old colonies.
WW2, well I hate to say it but we certainly could not have won if it wasn't for the yanks not only did they arm us but they led the invasion of Europe. Without Russia from the East and America from the West (with us helping) it is not likely Hitler could have been defeated.
Your right in that we probably don't "owe" them anything, that said being ungrateful is just plain rude.

I don't think US citizens think we owe them anything. The Brits had defeated the Nazi attemps to mount an invasion of the UK in 1940 by preventing the Luftwaffe succeding in the air war, most of RAF overseas pilots were Polish so we owe them a debt of thanks. The US declared war on the Germany so they were forced into fighting in Europe, because had the Japanese forces met up with German forces in the USSR (meaning the Soviets would have been defeated) .both nations could then attack the US from both the west and the east with only Britian standing between German intentions and the US and nothing stopping the Japanese .Britian would have had to surrender or negotiate some kind of peace treaty (on German terms)THe USA would have been vunrable .
That does not take away from the bravery they fought with and lessen the respect we should have for there men that fell liberating Europe
You will always get a few who think America saved the world ,and never loses wars etc ,but I am fairly sure they do not represent the views of the whole nation.

I get that WW" mantra spouted at me all the time and I see it my mission in life to re-educate these poor deluded arrogant people by reminding them that USA DID NOT join in WW2 to help ANYONE out. - That's not the way the USA operate !
The got dragged kicking and screaming into WW" AFTER the Japs found them hiding in Pearl Harbour and hit them big time.
THAT, like 9/11 was what galvanised them into action... the need to be seen as the "all american conquering heros".
After 9/11 they were galvansied out of thier comfort zone, and they tend to forget that it was not only thier nationality that were murdered in that attrocity... but typical arrogance and thier own national psychie - ie act first think later and don't ask questions saw them going into AFGHANISTAN.. which, as we KNOW is the REAL SOURCE of this recent terrorism conflict today NOT, contrary to popular USA belief, Iraq !!
Iraq was a US invasion made contrary to International rule of law and advice.
Typical again of USA, is to invade a country, then withdraw before the job was completed leaving other allied forces to sort otu thier mess, having not learned from the 1st Gulf War !!
77% of US troops were withdrawn in 2003 and re-deployed into Iraq leaving UK/NATO troops fighting on the ground in the REAL SOURCE of this "war" on terrorism - namely AFGHANISTAN (for the purpose of the uniformed, I class WAR as being able to look down the barrel of a rifle and see the enemy wearing a uniform at the bottom of it - NOT civilian clothing !)
So, Americans, PLEASE do NOT say you came to the aid of UK during WW2 because if that is what you have been taught in your schools there in America... PHEW !!
It explains such a lot !
World War II
1939-45 (U.S. involved, 1941-46)
SIMPLE AS !!

You don't owe us anything.
Our constitution says that it was our duty to defend your freedom from Nazi Rule.
If it wasn't for us and others you would probally have a bunch of portraits of Hitler hung up instead of the Queen. You also might have a Prince Adolph instead of William and Harry.
You could do us a favor though take Simon, and Beckham back. We'll keep Ozzy though. Thank you.

Well, think of it this way when you Brits get off our back about what we're doing over seas then we just might get off your back about WWII.
So all you have to do is let us do and help those who asked for our help and just drop WWII life is to short to think of something that's in the past. SO Just Try TO Get Over It And We'll Do The Same.

The fact that you think all Americans are like the few ignorant folks you've had the misfortune of meeting is itself pretty pathetic. You are guilty of the same kind of gross generalization of which you accuse the Americans.
That being said, it is pretty sad that you have had to meet people who have resorted to that sort of comment to get their point across. I don't feel, however, that they are in any way indicative of the American public in general.

You don't really owe us for WWII. That was in our interest, too. But I would say you owe us for burning down the White House. That was just mean, man. Oh, and you owe us for "America's Finest" on Five. It's waaay better than most of your programming. Except for "Top Gear" that is.
