If you have the current V5 you can go onto the dvla website and there is a section there to check the status of current mot's providing it was done my a computerised garage. Most are now.

If the car is under 3 years old then its due on the third anniversary of registration.

If the car's less than 3 years old, the test is due on the third anniversary of first registration. If it's older than that, it'll be a year after the last one (you can get it done slightly before, if you wish).

If you're not sure you'd better get it done. The hassles are too much if you're caught driving without one.
