For training do get some Asics they are very good!!! Go to roadrunnersports.com. Then for racing either get Nikes if you want to spend the money. I reccommend saucony Kilkinneys for women! They only cost 40.00 and weigh only 6 ounces. These are racing flats for Cross Country!! Goog Luck!!

Yeah, my friend had problems with Nike Shox as well...not that great of a shoe. Asics are fairly good-most of my team has a pair, and I'm thinking about getting a pair, since I'm in the market for new running shoes as well. Currently, I've got a pair of Adidas, which are pretty nice. If you aren't sure what type of shoes you need for your foot type, I'd go to a running store and ask one of their salespeople for help, since what you think you need might not be what you need. Be willing to try on any shoe they give you-they really do know best! Good luck!

Asics, you'r talking about Asics. What you need are Trainers. I ran XC for four years. Trainers are what you need first and foremost. These shoes are necessary for practice, they will last you 500 miles. Once you have decided if you want to be competitive you need to buy spikes. Trainers are built with cushion, arch support and ankle support. Keeping you from getting injured on the run. While spikes have little to no cushion, the bottom soles have holes where you put in metal spikes that dig in the dirt, giving you better traction. If you have ever heard of Swag's then you need to go by there and get fitted. They are the best and determining what you need. BUT in case there is no Swag's available you need to determine if you overpronate or not. The best test for this is to get the bottom of your feet wet and walk on a dry floor. Look at the print: If the you have allot of space in the center area of your foot (arch) then you overpronate allot, if it's half and half then you are normal, and if there is very little dryness (space) then you underpronate. this is very important.
SO just go for some trainers from someone who actually knows whta their selling you.

I bought a pair of nike shox for cross country this past season, ans two of the shocks actually fell off. Adidas running shoes are what I used next and they worked great! I would greatly suggest them to anyone for cross country.

Comfortable ones! I find that Asics are the best. Nike's soles run down too fast. Roger Soler's Sports has some awesome shoes and prices. Try there.

Buy Brooks they are the best by far for cross-country spikes.
For just shoes go to ***** and get Asics with a arc support insert.

I would recommend Adidas's "Adizer". I'm currently using it, for my cross-country training. One thing is is that it's extremely light, and that's good, especially for long distance running. Plus, the sole is made for all terrain, be it rocky paths, trail, cement or even track, it's good. It's also gives you a little "bounce" when your running. Which is a pretty nice feeling.

i prefer new balance. go to a shoe store with a pair of your old shoes and you can tell if you run on the outside, inside, or middle of your foot by how much the treads on the bottom of the shoe are worn. this can tell you what kind of shoe to get depending on how much padding is on each side. I prefer new balance.

here's the aisics site---i suggest either gel ds racer VII or gel enduro II:
http://www.asicsamerica.com/sports/running/
as for the nike shox, those things are defiantly not for cross country running...they were made for a gym floor, not rugged terrain!
i run cross country & my favorites are Nike Free Trail & Nike Air Zoom Percept.
you can find them online...the percept's are on sale!
here's the nike site:
http://www.nike.com/index.jhtml?sitesrc=USRU&l=nikestore,home#l=nikestore,grid,_grid,f-10001+12001+26005&re=US&co=US&la=EN
