You must have missed the questioner who asked recently whether the polar bears walked back to the North Pole following the flood!! It attracted some great answers! If one is going to accept the biblical flood legend as literal, then the problem does arise as to what happened afterward. Since the ark was apparently stranded on Mount Ararat, the animals would presumably have had to return to their home sites independently, wherever those might have been, foraging for whatever food might have been available as the waters receded! The concept seems a bit ridiculous when considered in depth which is no doubt why the bible fails to record the aftermath of the flood!

Not everything was destroyed, there was plant life out there. How else would the dove have found the olive branch? Trees don't grow in a matter of days. He had more than two of each animal as well. They took more sacrificial animals than they did other animals. But animals weren't the only living things on the ark besides Noah and his family. There was two of every FLESH, the other races of people were there too. Genetics worked the same then as they do now, and all the races can't be born from two of the same race. God does things naturally.

Since the Dove came back with an olive branch, apparently not everything. Plant life seems to survive and make a quick comeback. A good example is the plant life on the Bikini Atoll, where the hydrogen bomb was tested. Plant life returned quickly and even animals, before it was even considered safe for humans.

Remember that Noah fed the animals during the flood so there were provisions available in the ark from before the flood. Also Noah did not open the ark until God gave him a sign, which was the olive branch showing that vegetation had grown to some extent. So conditions must have been able to support animal life, otherwise God would not have allowed Noah to open the door and let the animals go.
In reference to one answer above. One main purpose of the Bible is to provide logic to support faith. God wants us to have logical support for our faith. Faith then becomes logical. God is not illogical. I am glad for that because my entire understanding of the Bible is based on logic. If it did not make logical sense to me I would be very uncertain about my faith. I feel very sorry for those whose beliefs do not make logical sense. That must be a terribly frightful state to live in.

Remember the passage? Noah sent out a bird every couple months after the rain stopped to see if it was safe to leave the ark. If the bird landed on something dry, it was safe. The bird brought back an olive branch in his beak! So vegetation was growing. God made sure they were all taken care of, don't worry.

He must have let them off at different times-it wouldn't be much good letting the lions off with the wildebeest or the Thompson's gazelles.
