If you know of someone like this then you need to call the police right away. If you can get to the child try to stay with him until someone gets there. If the parents get there before the police, then just tell them you were concerned about the child, leave, and contact the police again and let them know what is going on. I think that a child has to be 12 (at least in my state) to be left alone at anytime.

if the police came and the child was alone, he or she would be taken into protective custody and would be in foster care while the situation were investigated. The parents would probably go to jail, at least for a day. What would happen next would depend on where you live. In California, the goal is usually to keep families together, so the parents would probably have to take parenting classes to get the kid back. If they already had a lengthy record, longer term foster care might be needed.

They most certainly should lose custody of that child and they deserve to. A one-year old child is in the very beginning stages of exploring their world. As most know, the organ used most to "test things out" is their mouths. Absolutely EVERYTHING they can get their hands on goes directly into their mouths. It doesn't matter if it tastes good or not, they will taste it, eat it, whatever. As parents, we cannot watch our children every second of every day and they tend to get themselves into trouble. The point being that although small kids will find trouble, we, as parents should ALWAYS ALWAYS be there to help them.
To answer your question, yes, the caregiver or caregivers of a one year old can and should go to jail. If anything were to happen to that child when they're gone, they could be charged with the death of that child.

Yes. And the child will be taken away. A 1 year old can find a lot of bad things in only seconds.

Yes, and they should be. A one year old is not old enough to take care of themselves. You need to call Child Services right away if this is in fact not you who is doing the leaving alone.

A person will be arrested for leaving a baby alone for any amount of time if the authorities had knowledge of this!

Do you really have to ask this? Yes ofcourse, it is child abandonment and the person will be jailed and the child will be taken into Child Protective Services. I would definitely report this person, no matter who it is. The child deserves better.

That is horrible. Yes they can be.
To this day I think people should have to take the stupid test before they can reproduce. Some people do the dumbest things.
