I had a lovely Jack Russel that used to do the same thing. The vet said it was just nerves. He would only do it if he was left alone or was bored. The vet sudgested anti-deppressants to relax him, but since the damage was ony a bald patch, we decided to leave it unless he showed more symptoms of depression. He never did. I used a cream on his bald spot that the vet provided and put a muzzel on him so he wouldn't lick it off untill it was absorbed. I also used the muzzel if I went out for longer than a few hours. (They can still drink with a muzzel on.) He eventually got used to the muzzel and the hair grew back. That's all the advice I can offer...good-luck!

It could be an allergy or flea problem or something more serious like mange. Dogs sometimes also do this when they are really stressed...my friend had two dogs and when one died, the other began pulling out her own hair.

Sounds like possibly allergies. My Lab has environmental allergies so at times he is not as bad. But allergies can develop at any time in life. They will usually chew their paws and legs. My dog is worse during our allergy season and then at other times he has no problems.

do you put that 'shake & vac' stuff on your floors? - if you do that causes skin problems for animals i heard. sounds like some sort of allergy though...best get it checked with the vet.

i am not sure if what i am saying is true, but it may help you. this may be that your dog has flees and is trying to take flees out itself. if this doesn't help try webmb.com for pets.
