Go to a bakery supply store or check your local grocery store For Wilton's Christmas red or no taste red food coloring gel. I wouldn't use the liquid food coloring because the amount you have to use will thin out your frosting.
Melting it and then letting it sit will cause the sugar crystals in it to form big chunks on the top (Like frosting a cake and leaving it out makes the frosting hard)

Add red food coloring. You may need a lot depending on the deepness of the color. You might want to check with a Michael's or Hobby Lobby to see if they have a paste to add that will change the color and not the texture.

The best thing to use is decorator's paste food coloring. You take a toothpick and retrieve some food coloring from the tub and just mix it in. Or you can use drops of food coloring and mix that into the frosting. You don't need to change the temperature of the frosting to hot or cold. -Chef Manny

You should be able to add liquid food coloring without any problems. There is no need to warm the frosting up. Just put several drops into the container and stir it up.

You would think that by adding red food coloring, it would turn red, but it won't. No matter how much liquid food coloring you add, it will only be pink. To make it truly turn red, you have to get icing coloring PASTE. You can buy it at M*cheal's or anywhere else that sells cake decorating supplies. Follow the directions on the package. Unfortunately, RED is the most diffcult icing color to achieve, with purple and black close on its heels. Good luck and cheers.

Add red food coloring, available at any grocery store. Usually, food coloring comes in a kit of four bottles: red, yellow, green, and blue.

Use red food coloring, you might need more than a few drops because at first the frosting will trun pink. Then just stir!

add blood.
Just kidding ahaha. put a few drops of red food coloring... (use enough to make it red instead of turning pink) and mix it with a mixer, but not too much if you want the frosting a little thick.
