I bought some amaretto thats only 21% alcohol (42 proof), is that high enough to put in my freezer or will it blow up? And does anyone know what the lowest proof is that you can safely put in the freezer without it exploding? thanks

I know high proof alcohols like liquor that is 60-80 proof won't freeze but I'm asking if something as low as 40 proof will freeze, and yes i agree its better coming out of the freezer thats why I want to freeze my amaretto. Thanks for the answers tho

Honestly, it all depends on the exact temperature of your freezer. The colder your freezer gets, the higher the alcohol concentration has to be to prevent freezing.

To be safe and not have to look up any esoteric charts and tables or have to stick a thermometer in your freezer, try this:
Take a plastic cup and pour a shot or two of the amaretto in it. Then place the cup in your freezer for about 4 hours...maybe more. If it freezes, that means the bottle is a no-go. If not, then you can feel safe that the bottle won't go boom! Keep in mind that freezers vary in temperature, plus you also have the ability to set the temperature to some degree (though the scale of the adjustment has no actually temperature reference, generally a "coldest" to "warmest" setting and somewhere in between).

This way, you'll know for sure rather than relying on somebody who knows nothing about your particular freezer and just taking their word on it.

Anything but wine should be OK to freeze. It's better frozen anyway.
