I agree totally, you can't beat a GSD. I grew up with one, and have had 3 of my own.

I disagree wholeheartedly with finnis39, GSD's are fine around children, like I said I was brought up with one, and have had 3 of my own since, with 3 children too, Woof, my 1st GSD was fab with my baby, she came home from hospital and I could leave them together on their own, if she cried woof would come and get me from the kitchen or whereever, I had 2 more kids who would play fight all the time, woof never hurt them, and would even join in, as does my GSD now, she always enjoys a good play fight with the kids, nobody gets hurt they just tire each other out, much more fun that walking around a muddy field last thing at night !!!

I would never say any dog is the best. They can all turn nasty if mistreated. I have a rottweiler that weighs eleven and half stone ( 164 pound ) and he is the cutest, most loveable dog you could meet, he even lets the kids climb on his back and walks round with them there. lol think he's crossed with donkey. It your own preference what you get but make sure you see the parents first. I hope you treat them well and if your daughter loves your two she must be right in her mind about what she thinks. She loves them and they love her so why worry. By the way why are people critisising you for saying bestest. Are you by any chance from Ireland coz my partner is and says the same thing.

I agree with your daughter. I have a two year old Shepherd and he's a great dog. I also believe that any dog, if well trained and taken care of would make a great companion.

I have owned Shepherds and yes they are great dogs but I now have Labs and love them like crazy. But certain breeds are better for certain people and their lifestyles.

i agree i lost my beloved max my gsd in November last year to cancer . but i cant get another as he Broke my heart and i would expect the same things from another one but they will always be my very favourite breed so intelligent and a great house dog but beware they do not like children play fighting so not a dog to have with small children it stresses the dog out to see kids fighting they protect their family by nature if you've got a good one that is my max was my best friend and i don't think i could have cried anymore if I'd lost a kid only dog lovers would understand that i think

Well they are definetly good dogs, most of them. Some tend to wander, or be slightly dominant/aggressive guard dogs. But they are active, happy, and most of the time really good dogs.

:) hope my small amount of advice helped!

My inlaws have a GSD who's a lovely dog, really well behaved and extremely trainable.

I blush to compare her to my psychotic Collie/Lab cross and Jack Russell, both of whom would be on ASBOS if they were human.
