The Taurus X (formerly known as the Freestyle) has been re-vamped, re-styled, & re-named for 2008!
It will be powered by the 3.5 litre Duratec V6 & feature a 6 speed automatic, boasting a healthy 265 horsepower!
The Taurus just GREW UP ! No BULL !

Actually the person above is close, but not correct.
The '08 Taurus is a renamed Ford 500. It is getting the new 3.5l Cyclone engine and some styling changes. The 500 never caught on at least in part because it was not advertised much. It is a great family car with 5 star ratings on all crash testing, great handling, great fuel economy and a trunk bigger than a Crown Vic! It has optional 4 wheel drive.
Now that the original Taurus is out of production, the name will be applied to the 500.
The "Taurus X" name will be applied to the Ford Freestyle Compact Utility Vehicle (CUV). This car is made on the same line as the 500. I own one and love it. It gets 27 MPG at 75 MPH, 22 in the city, and carries 6 people in comfort. Again, it is getting the new engine and some styling changes.
Hopefully the new (old) name will help to sell more of these great, but relatively unknown vehicles.

In my opinion it is too tall to be called a Taurus. From a front shot, it looks like a truck. Some lowering springs could do it some justice though.
