My computer was not working a while back. I couldn't do much. But I was able to access my files. I bought an external hard drive, and copied everything I needed to it.

I copied the program files folder which has all of the programs I need.
I re-installed windows. And now all I have is the files. I do not have the exe file that installes them. They do not work. I installed Vista. What can I do?

When a program installs, it installs files into the registry and numerous other places. Just copying the files from your programs folder is not enough to reinstall the programs.

In short, you will have to locate the original install files to reinstall the programs onto your computer. Also, some software may not work on vista. In any case, the information you have saved is only going to allow you to put your user data back on once you install the programs from their respective install disks.

Sorry!

You may have saved all of the executables, but they have to be registered with Vista. That means they must be installed from the disks that they came with. Depending on whether you have VIsta 64x, they may not install and won't run in Vista. If you have 32-bit Vista, you can reinstall them, but they still might not work. Good luck.
