Some good advice: Read *Gnosis of the Cosmic Christ*. Then you'll have the answer to your question and, finally, an understanding of the "christianity " actually practiced by Jesus. And, not the "variety" practiced by the used car salesmen/ preachers and their flocks, currently. A complete travesty and affront to the true theory, practice and benefits as contemplated by Jesus and as corrupted by the patriarcho-fascist psychopaths who have hijacked a great world religion for their own profit and egos. ;-)

Christians are going to say, "Read Genesis"- or else they will answer by quoting from it. Atheists will give you their "BIG BANG" recitation. And some oddball will probably tell you the world was created by a committee of pink celestial unicorns. I am a Christian, therefore I say read Genesis. But the answers you get to this one are going to be pretty predictable.

The Universe is a super organism which is born and has a period of childhood, youth and old age, it grows up and eventually produces life and people. Just as you were born, the Universe comes out of the exact same 'place' (pre-existence) that you were in before you were on the earth, eventually it will get old, run out of energy and return to its pre-existent state just like everyone.

God spoke it into existance.

John 1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

I believe Jesus Christ, under the direction of God our Heavenly Father, used matter that was unorganized and created everything including our bodies. (I believe we lived as spirit children with our Heavenly Parents before coming to the earth.)
I believe that God and Jesus Christ are all powerful, so, that means they can control the elements and know HOW to control them. I call it "God's Science".
