Any dog and any breed can turn aggressive. It is all how you handle and train them. Our Pit Bull is now 4 and is the sweetest and most loving dog you will ever meet. My younger Lab terrorizes him all the time and he takes it all in stride. Try and watch the "Dog Whisperer" with Cesar Milan it will help you understand the dog mentality and you will be better able to deal with your dog. A great deal of dogs turn aggressive from lack of leadership and exercise. Dogs view us as the Alpha or pack leader and if you are weak they will take over. Pit Bulls get a bad rap but if they are raised, trained and handled right (as like any breed) they are excellent dogs.

It really depends on how they are raised. If they are properly trained, get enough excercise and are treated kindly and with a lot of love they can be great dogs. Since you aren't sure of his early upbringing, I'd be careful of him around children if you have any. These dogs should always be kept on a leash also and since he has bitten other animals, I'd be careful with him around other animals. These dogs are so often mistreated in order to make them mean which is so sad to me. Give him lots of love and attention.

After being around both dogs and people for half a century I think I'd trust a dog further than most people. Never had one attack me when I wasn't looking or without cause.

no far from true. theo nly reason he would have a reason to turn on you is because YOU arnet treating it right. so treat him with respect without letting him become dominate and he'll be your best friend for life. if you want to know more go to this group and ask this same question. www.groups.myspace.com/pitbull excuse the drama posts.

They are right. They HAVE A BAD REPUTATION FOR A REASON! Simple as that. They were bred to fight other pits to the death and therefore play aggressively and attack aggressively with very strong teeth.
