I have a shiba inu and he's a great dog and only typically barks if he's afraid of something.

The basenji does not bark but it can make noise as in howl. (I was upset as a child thinking the breed couldn't make any noise at all, LOL) If what your really asking is whether there is a breed that is unlikely to be yappy and is very small, I suggest the Japanese Chin. Chin are not yappy at all. Some have a personality which will talk to you, but you more or less have to ask them to. As far as being yappy no, the Chin is unlikely to bark at door bells ringing, or most anything else. They are one toy breed that is far from yappy. They do shed, and range from 4 LB which would be very tiny to 15 which would be very large for the breed. They average between 7 and 11 lb. The first link below will give you some more info on toy breeds and the second on the Japanese Chin

in general yes they do as they have been bred that way. Most small dogs are terriers and were bred to bark so that hunters knew where they were underground.
They also tend to be more excitable which leads to their barking.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/H3J67
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Yes, smaller, 'toy' dogs are known for their barking.
Especially Beagles, Poodles, etc.
