My husband is flying home form a business trip tonight, but has a 3 hour layover at an airport less than 2 hours from home. He would rather get to see me sooner, than to sit around for 3 hours, then to hop another plane for the short flight home. I was thinking of meeting him and just staying at a hotel to spend some time together, then drive home tomorrow. I was told that Delta will have problem with that because of new security measures and that you cant just NOT take the last leg of a flight... is this true? If so, can how do we go about getting him "excused" from the flight???

I understand they cant MAKE him, but a friend told me she didnt take the last leg of a flight recently and officials showed up at her door asking her all kids of questions. I thought that was absurd and have never heard of such a thing!

Yes it is OK... BUT... Don't do it on an outbound flight or else you will turn up at the airport to go home and find that your return flight has been cancelled!

When you depart the flight before taking the last leg, go to a tickt agent and let them know that you will not be on the last leg and why. If you have checked luggage, that would be another problem.

The airlines used to have a problem with what they called "hidden destinations." For example if you bought a ticket from San Francisco to Atlanta, the fare was about $400.00. If you bought a ticket from San Francisco to Miami, it cost $199.00 and the plane stopped over in Atlanta! You could see how a lot of enterprising passengers took advantage of that situation!

Just follow the directions above and you will have no problem...

It shouldn't be a problem. If you want to cover all of your bases, call Delta and tell them your husband will not be on the last flight.

They can have issue with you all day long. You're paying for the flight. Just inform them that you want your lugage and you won't be continuing on with the flight.

If they baulk, what are they going to do? Keep your money?

Have him tell them that he feels ill and is going to seek medical attention. Have them pull his suitcase.
