Enlistment is normally 4 years.

You are eligible to be deployed to combat zones.

Basic Training is Tough mentally more than physical. Just start jogging, doing sit ups and push ups. As many as you can.

I would say the Air Force is a good career. I enjoyed it.

Forget the above answer. Yes, women are deployed to Iraq depending upon their career field. The USAF is normally a four year enlistment but there is a 6 year option that gives you more school choices and choice of assignment after leaving Tech School. The USAF has some fine schools and some very cool things to play with. If you score well on your tests you have better choices also. Good luck and have a great career. Glen (27 year USAF Vet)

enlistment is 4 or 6 years depending on what you choose. Boot camp wasnt bad for me, is was more mentally chanllening then physical, basically it was a mind game. they prepare you for war if you go go. And yes, air force is good for a 19 year old female.

I have read about the airforce bootcamp. It is very tough. When you and other recruits leave for the naval academy boot camp, you all will be blindfolded and they will only remove your blindfolds once you have reached your boot camp destination. And then the guys in the bus will start shouting very loudly at you to look down while shielding your face with a green study book that you are probably given just before you reach the camp. They will be shouting at you and call you stuff like "Maggots" and then you will have to line up under the sun and one of the drill instructors will immediately ask questions from that green study book, but you must be smart and pretend you don't know, cos you don't want to get on the wrong side of your fellow recruits. You will be assigned a roommate based on your last names (usually alphabetically: Johnson, Johnston) etc. and you will only be given a minute to shower. Before that you will be asked to strip of all the clothing on your back and your belongings will be takes from you, and you will be given something like a sack with a number of items you need during boot camp and those are the only things you can possess (clothes and boots etc will be issued), till you leave. And when you shower, you have to rotate positions: 15 seconds under each spigot/shower head till you reach the end of the line, so probably a 2 minute shower and of course there will be an assigned military woman watching you with a timer in hand. There is a lot more that I've read from a book, memoir of a real life ex-naval serviceman, and women are treated just like the men, so it is difficult. Sorry I don't know about the deployment to iraq. I just thought that sharing what I've read will help you make a more informed decision about whether or not to join the air force. Remember that every branch will encourage you to join theirs and say that they are the best of the lot, but you really REALLY need to talk to a lot of people who have been in the air force for real, and not just rely on the info here, including mine. But honest to goodness, I'm not lying about what I've mentioned here, because I've honestly read a book about an ex-naval serviceman's experience in his memoir "Here's what we'll say".

nicely, purely relies upon on what their MOS is and what unit they get assigned to. If the education they require for his or her activity is very huge, one would desire to enlist and then be in college upwards of a twelve months. that's for jobs like medic, radiology technician, etc. different MOSs like 11B (Infantry) or 88M (motive force) are truly short education, and that they'd hypothetically, enlist in January, circulate to undemanding for 2 months, AIT for yet another 2 months, and then be assigned to a unit this is deploying (or perhaps already deployed) and be in Iraq or Afghanistan in would. It happens plenty. This customarily applies to energetic accountability. could no longer say plenty approximately Reserves or nationwide shelter, i assume it would desire to take place, yet its unlikely.
