I know that the farther north in CA you go, the nicer it is and it is a lot cheaper to live too. I grew up in South Central Callifornia and it is really expensive there and really overcrowded and dirty. I am planning on moving to either Northern CA, Oregon, or Montana as soon as I get out of the military in 2 years. Those places are beautiful, cheap and have plenty to do. Especially Montana. Northern CA is good because it has big cities close by but I spent 6 years in Montana and it is great, especially if you love outdoors. Keep in mind that CA has higher taxes as well and is generally more than some other states. Oregon and Montana don't have state taxes. They are all good and bad in their own ways but do as much research before you make that big commitment because you might not like it once you move if you don't find out everything. Good luck.

It is a good place to live. As far as being a good place to move to, well it depends on what your ideas are as far as what makes a city a good place. The main draw to Redding is I think recreation. You have Mount Shasta and Lassen. Both beautiful areas and within an hours drive. Mt. Shasta has good skiing and is just AWESOME. Now our Lakes are Shasta and Whiskeytown. Great camping areas and boating, (HOUSEBOATING MECCA ON SPRING BREAK AND MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND) and one lake is more Houseboats and waterskiing and the other is more Sailing and Fishing. We are a 3 hours drive to the coast, and the drive is beautiful. You go through the Trinity alps to get there. We are 2 1/2 hours North of Sacramento the capital and great shopping. We are 3 hours from the wine country and San Francisco. Oh and if you go east you are 3 hours from Reno Nevada. So you are an easy drive from a lot of great places, yet you get to live in a city which still retains a lot of the small town feel. The housing industry really boomed here and now it's kind of stagnant. The house next door to me is listed at 469,000 it been on the market for a long time and she's not going to get it in my opinion at least not in the current market. I just had my house appraised and it is bigger and on a lot twice the size and mine appraised at 445,000. It will rebound though and when it does you get an influx of the city people and housing shoots up. I have seen this come and go many times. Word is getting out on Redding though and you are seeing the town go through some changes. Mostly positive. It is great they are finally restoring downtown and bringing in bigger strores like Kohl's and Lowes. Some would disagree with though. The two biggest negatives about Redding are Jobs and the Summer Heat. It's kind of an unspoken rule though if you live here not to complain openly about it. A true Redding Native loves Redding for all it is including the sometimes 120+ heat. You see we have lakes and most people have swimming pools to cool off so it is not that bad. Unless you work in the heat and even cal -trans has wised up and repairs the road ant nights in the summer now. The Sacramento River is another plus to Redding. Very pretty and more boating rafting and fishing opportunities. Oh and the biking trails and walking trails are amazing. I am sure you heard about our sun dial bridge? If not look it up it's pretty neat but a lot a people complained about the expense but it is really neat the way it ties into the river trail and a fun place to walk. Also Turtle Bay Discovery park has turned out to be really neat. This February we are getting the Titanic Exhibit the same one that came to all the major cities so that's pretty cool. So to sum up I would say Redding is a pretty good place to live but more things I would like to see is Higher paying job opportunities to other people other than medical and legal professions. A four year college other than Simpson Private University would be great and maybe a bit more diversity and culture. Like a said though that is changing and when it does Redding will I believe be a hard place to move because word will have gotten out and you will see a big influx of people and it like all booming cities will become unaffordable so if you are planning on moving here it is good you are doing it now in my opinion. Hope this helped. Welcome to Redding!

United Express goes from SF to Redding airport. Not sure how much, though (not a major airport, so probably a lot). But, if you wanted to fly directly in, then fly into SFO and connect. As for the easiest major airport to fly into then drive to Redding... probably Sacramento. It's a straight shot up 5. If you mean which airport IN Redding... uhhh... I think they only have the one, and the only commercial passenger flights are between Redding and SF (so, again, fly into SF then connect).

i live in redding and for the most part i like it alot.
house prices are going up because alot of bay area buyers are coming in so that is raising the rent prices.
the summers get VERY hot. we usually hit 110+ every summer. make sure you have a good a/c. winters are nice. some years it snows but it's not a whole lot. it's not too far of a drive if you like to go skiing or snow boarding.
not alot of violence which is really nice.
