Yes, I have fought in 4 campaigns and I'm only 38. I'm still serving, by the way. To say one does not know what one is talking about, because that person has not fought in a war is narrow minded and ignorant. One does not have to fight in a war to know the horrors and atrocities that happen, especially with the media getting embedded with troops while the fighting is occurring. As far as what the military mind is thinking and what a service member goes through, you are quite correct; unless one has served and fought, then there is no basis for an informed opinion. Thank you for your service.

my Dad was a machine gunner in WWII, the only war I've been part of is the war on poverty. I don't need to be a soldier, to feel horrified at the number of deaths among our young people, or to feel empathy for the people mourning the death of their children and family. I do not have to be in a war to worry about my son[LT Air force] going over to any country where some one wants to kill him for the sole reason that he wears a uniform. Nor do I have to be a Veteran to know that many of our soldiers will end up living on the streets because the government that blew their minds are not willing to take responsibility for their lives. I don't have to be a soldier to know what I am talking about.

I have never served in war, and hope to god I never have too. Enough war movies have shown me war is nothing to be involved in.
Imagine rival gangs targeting each other for murder and wind up killing innocent people.
Then blow that up where the rival gangs are rival countries and that is what war is.
