Differentiation of lymphocytes refers to development of a common "precursor" lymphocyte into a more specialized lymphocyte that is is able to respond to a certain challenge. For example, bacteria may cause precursor lymphocytes to differentiate into cytotoxic T-lymphocytes to destroy them, while a virus might cause a differentiation of precursors to a more-prominent B-lymphocytic response in order to produce antibodies that more-effectively deals with circulating viruses.

white blood cells have 5 types of cells, when white blood cells are elevated this mean that you have infection but to know what type of infection you have you must know what type of this 5 is above normal ( you may have bacterial , viral, paraside)
