Having a baby ferret is probably best for a beginner!!! They need alot of attention but they will know you from the begiining and will trust making handling alot easier!,If you are not confident always use thick gloves, and fed with ferret dry food so they dont get the taste for meat every time. It establishes that hands are not food!!!
Not always but does help! The main secret is handle every dat and as much as you can , and you will have lots of fun!!!

The reason why baby ferrets are not recommended for beginners is that they need an awful lot of attention to make them good pets. Ferrets do make good pets if looked after properly and will not bite. However as I said before on the other thread, rescues are full of young ferrets that first time owners have given up on because they were not prepared to devote the time to them. Go to any of the numerous ferret web sites and you will find lots of info and good advice. Get a kit by all means if you are prepared to stick with it but please don't dump it if it is hard work. I have never been bitten by an adult ferret but I have several times by kits. Oh, and a male ferret is called a Hob, not a dog, and a female is a Jill but then anyone handing out advice would know that.

I wasn't so sure myself.....I thought getting a baby would be best, like a cat or dog, so it would know me from little on. I didn't realize that baby ferrets bit hard, and the second night I had my 8 week old, I almost gave up when he drew blood! I stayed up late researching and found that ferrets are like kittens, playful etc. all their lives, so when they're little, they are extremely playful and nip a lot. I researched how to potty train and how to stop the biting and these techniques worked great for me. NEVER play with the baby with your hands, use a toy. When they bite too hard, you can make a loud noise and 'scruff them' which is what the mother would naturally do to show dominance- grab them gently behind the neck and then drag them across the carpet for a few inches- they will learn that to play with you they cannot bite hard. It was well worth it-

How many people have you seen with ferret problems? Most ferrets have one or two issues, babies have them all lol. They are just more work is all. You have to teach them to use their litter box, you have to teach them not to bite. Quite often they poop in their bed and sleep in the litter box. You have to teach them everything just like you do with a child. Be patient and do some research first.

Because they run away lots. Even if you have a gated yard, they can climb. Also, they're very fast and hard to catch if they escape. They are very cute, but make sure you're ready for it!
