I had really bad spots in my 20's too! If they are developing white (pustular) heads, and there is a risk of scarring, you ought to see a dermatologist (skin specialist) and ask him or her for tablets of cis-retinoic acid. This is highly effective for acne, but should not be taken if you are planning to get preganant!
Spots are not due to diet. I used to get really fed up with people accusing me of eating too much chocolate! Acne often runs in families. It is due to the pores getting blocked with sebum - a natual substance produced by the skin. There is a particular bacteria that is thought to involved too.
Good luck with getting it sorted!

Depends on your skin type. Are you dry or oily? And what kind of spot are they? Are they open/surface or the 'under the skin' type?
I would think about how you got these spots. If they are just a one off, I wouldn't worry, it happens sometimes at any age. Have you starting eating or stopped eating a certain food? Are you stressed? Having your period? Recently come off the pill?

Are you on the pill? If so it could be hormones causing it. There is a pill called Dianette that really worked for me - it is actually recognised as having the side effect of treating adult acne. If your spots are a real problem talk to your doctor as they may suggest a course of antibiotics to sort you out.

Could it be down to diet? Living alone, I never buy potatoes (only frozen ones) or oranges so if my vitamin C intake is too low, i develop spots. I therefore take a vitamin C supplement. I hope this helps.

it may be hormone related but it can also be related to a zinc deficiency - really ! Buy some zinc tablets - 15-20mg a day - and take them! You won't notice the difference straight away, it can take a few weeks, but zinc deficiency is directly linked to acne and skin conditions so this can only help.
Good luck

how is your diet? are you getting enough vitamins and minerals?
does any skin afflictions run in the family?
talk to your doctor about this? if not, see them. get a blood panel see how your chemistry is doing.
remember sometimes things that show up on the outside are an indication of something going on inside.

You may have adult acne. No amount of creams or potions will help. See your GP who will prescribe a low dose antibiotic. It will take up to six or eight weeks before you see a difference but you wont look back.
